Create a Spell Contest

Here are the winners for the "Create a Spell to Help You Do Your Job" contest

First Place:

I teach eighth grade.  I’d create a spell to put on books and papers that would encourage my students to read them and to love learning.  From the beginning, they’d want to do their homework and enjoy projects.  They might even take the time to enjoy school.

Debra Guyette, CT

Runners Up:

I would create an “ I don't work here” spell. I'm a head cashier at Barnes & Noble. I  am called up to the cash registers for getting change for the cashiers, authorizing an exchange or refund, as back up when the line gets to long and a lot of trouble shooting. Most of the time I'm in the back counting tills or counting in the change order or doing office work when I'm called. I have to go from the back of the store to the front and most of the time I'm stopped by a customer for various reasons. I can't say, “No I can't help you,” but I have to get “up front” as fast as I can. So, if I were a practitioner I would caste an I-don't-work-here spell so I can get up to cash wrap as fast as I can with out being stopped. I love my job and most of the reasons is I love interacting with people. But when I have to get to my cashiers, I can't stop to tell someone were the bathroom is.

Bobbette DeLalio, NC

My day job is a music therapist and performer. My spell is named “Ceoleen” (Irish for little music).

“The warbling of the lark be in my voice

“The nightingale's call be in my voice

“The whippoorwill's trill be in my voice

“The beat of the heart be in my voice

“The tears of the soul be in my voice

“The joy of the world be in my voice.

“May my voice ring true for those who hear.”

Jeanne Barrack, PA

Congratulations everyone!
